TEE TO GREEN – Dare to Be Different in ‘08

The opening of ‘The Snead’ is right around the corner. I know that I am ready for some warmer temperatures and a return to the links. I certainly hope that you are as well. Sure we will get a few more cold snaps; however, there will be lots of pleasant days. I would like to make a couple of suggestions as we embark on this new golf season.

Perhaps you are not striking the golf ball particularly well on a given round. Your short game, pitching, chipping and putting can save you. When you are sharp in those areas you can still shoot a good score. When spending time on the lesson tee I observe most members spend the majority of practice time working on their full swing. This amounts to 75% or more. Why don’t we flip flop that this year? Let’s vow to spend most of our time on the short game. I assure you that lower scores will result.

Another consideration . . . . play in the June MemberGuest versus the August one. The dates are slated for June 12th thru 15th. The temperatures will be cooler than August and the two events are identical in terms of gifts, prizes and parties. Traditionally Members have gravitated towards the August date. Be different! In a perfect world it would be wonderful to have around 40 teams in each event. That would be terrific for the pace of play.

So spend a lot of time on your short game and we will see you on the podium collecting that winning prize in either the June or August MemberGuest!
