Summit Season Means Garden Blooming

Summit Garden
The Summit Lodge officially opened last Friday, May 1st and with it you’ll notice our mountain-top garden is beginning to sprout some great looking vegetables. The culinary staff did their first planting about three weeks ago; planting cold weather crops in fear of a late frost.

Currently items include: purple mizuna (arugala-salad green), collards, spinach, thumbelina carrots, fennel, three types of beets (golden, candy stripe and bulls blood), brocoli, swiss chard, red romaine, green romaine, bib lettuce, shallots, arugala, orach, russian kale, strawberry plants, fava beans, peas, radishes, and mint.

Harvesting of the above will start this week and the next to make room for warm weather plants such as tomatoes, squash, zucchini, and a second planting of the items above.

We are also attempting to produce some mushroom logs, shitake mainly. We hope that these will continue to thrive.

So next time when you are at the Summit Lodge be sure to take a peek over the wall at our ever-growing garden and the tantalizing healthy edibles that will go into making your meals at the Summit Lodge!
