This Sunday morning (May 17th, 2009) at 8am EST, Ambergris Cay takes center stage on ESPN’s hit show, Wanna Go Fishing? The second episode of a two part series (first episode airing May 10th,) Ambergris Cay and its jewel tone Caribbean waters steal the spotlight when the group hits the almost impossible Ambergris Cay Slam: catching a tarpon, bonefish, and wahoo all in one trip!
Host, Matt Eastman, his film crew and their lucky “winner” visited Ambergris Cay February 22 – 25, 2009 to film an episode at the beautiful, adventure-filled Turks & Caicos Sporting Club! The whole crew joined a team of Ambergris Cay Outdoor Pursuits Directors and Fishing Guides for a two-day extravaganza of fishing, Caribbean dining and nature on the exclusive island of Ambergris Cay.
The premise behind ESPN’s Wanna Go Fishing? takes an unsuspecting fishing fanatic and transports them to a hot fishing locale with only two contact phone calls and five minutes to decide yes or no. Lucky Turks & Caicos episode winner, Chasom, flew down to Ambergris Cay with the ESPN staff to embark on a whirlwind adventure on the waters of Ambergris Cay. Exploring the un-surveyed waters, and catching the ever impossible Ambergris Cay Slam of bonefish on the fly in the flats to wahoo in deeper depths with heaver tackle and Tarpon while poling in an undiscovered cove; the ESPN team was ecstatic about the amount of material they were able to shoot on one 1,100 acre island!
Spending time wading, poling, shallow reef and deep sea fishing, swimming with Stingrays, conching and learning about the local flora and fauna of Ambergris Cay, Eastman and team landed the perfect shoot and had so much material they split the shoot into two full ESPN episodes! The first segment of the Ambergris Cay show aired on ESPN May 10, with a second segment airing this Sunday, May 17, 2009 at 8am! Both episodes will be available on www.lifeonthecay.com.
