The most perfect place available to ride at The Greenbrier Sporting Club has to be at the pinnacle of Greenbrier Mountain, just a short distance from our Summit Lodge.

This year Sporting Club horses Lily, Daisy, Bootsie, Sunny and Gus can be found pastured on top of Greenbrier Mountain, providing Sporting Club members with a whole new environment to explore while trail riding. The horses enjoy their own fenced in pasture, complete with shelter and running water. Rides start at Jackson Circle and are in Western saddles, unless English saddles are specifically requested.

Trail rides are available for riders of all skill levels. Beginners can take a relaxing ride through The Summit neighborhoods while more advanced riders can choose a variety of trails, including part of The Summit Trail, which features incredible views of The Snead and The Greenbrier resort. With luck riders may see local fauna including wild turkey and deer.

Several members and their guests have taken our fantastic four-legged beauties out on these fun new trails, and they are looking forward to returning again soon. If you haven’t had a chance to experience for yourself then you still have some time to schedule before the horses go back down the mountain for the winter. Catch a warm day and sneak in a ride before the snow falls.

Enjoy a taste of the Sporting Life by viewing some trail riding photos from a couple weeks ago. We caught a beautiful warm fall day…absolutely perfect for experiencing this new amenity while our guides, Dawn Holliday and Kelly Kirk, showed us the best trail at The Summit!

    The Greenbrier’s exclusive residential community, The Greenbrier Sporting Club, has challenged Ocean Reef Club to compete in The Greenbrier Sporting Club Cup – a golf tournament that will tackle The Snead, a par 71, 7,205-yard Tom Fazio masterpiece. All Sporting Club members are invited to represent our club at America’s Resort. Teams will comprise up to 20 golfers from each club, who will compete to determine the 2011 Cup Champion.


    COST: $135/person (no room required) OR $525/single, $675/double – includes two nights accommodations at The Greenbrier, golf, use of a golf cart, Tuesdays’ cocktail reception & buffet dinner at The Summit, tournament play beverage cart service (cigars, liquors and sandwiches excluded), Wednesday’s lunch following tournament and evening awards reception.     The day once known as Decoration Day not only marks a day of remembrance for our country’s fallen soldiers, but also the unofficial beginning of the summer season. It’s the weekend when pools across the region finally open their gates and picnic baskets are brought out of storage. This year at The Greenbrier Sporting Club, Memorial Day activities will include a bevy of outdoor pursuits, group workouts, dedicated children activities, and sports. However, it will also include the club’s annual Community Association Meeting on Saturday the 28th, and later that day, there will be a tour of Pam West’s Farm, where many of the “Farm to Table” ingredients at GSC’s restaurants are grown.

    Ten Years! It’s hard to imagine The Greenbrier Sporting Club is poised to celebrate its 10th Annual Homecoming Weekend beginning this Thursday. The weekend is always a favorite with members, as they reconvene to play, relax and dine together for an unforgettable weekend full of club activities. There are a number of happenings beginning on Thursday and Friday, including an open house reception at Ananda Spa Friday evening. Things really begin to ramp up on Saturday. In the morning, the shotgun golf tournament will blast off at 9am. Soon after, a variety of both children and adult activities will begin to take place throughout the day. Among them: cocktail mixology for adults and pony rides, dodgeball, pond fishing, archery and s’mores for the whole family! At 6pm, a reception and awards banquet will take place at The Members’ Lodge before everyone breaks for dinner.

    The Greenbrier Sporting Club has been enjoying some beautiful spring weather recently and hopes to keep the good luck going during the annual Easter Weekend celebration. The Greenbrier resort will also be hosting Fun Fest, with an array of outdoor and indoor activities to give all age levels a variety of options.

    June is the beginning of the king salmon run and the fishing for rainbow trout, arctic grayling, and arctic char is very good. The big rainbows will be feeding on the outgoing migration of salmon smolts and after a long winter under the ice they are ready to feed.

    We will have six full days of action packed fishing. Each day begins with breakfast at the lodge and then we head off in jet boats or float planes to our daily fishing location. Lunch is streamside with big hearty dinners back at the lodge.
    The lodge at Rainbow Bay Resort has ample space for you to spread out and relax after a tough day of fishing. The lodge sleeps ten people so our group will have it all to ourselves. Bedrooms have two queen beds and private baths.

    Cost for this trip is $6000.00, includes food and lodging at Rainbow Bay Resort, fly out guided fishing, beer and wine. Does not include fishing license and king salmon tag, liquor, travel to Anchorage, food and lodging in Anchorage, or transportation from Anchorage to Rainbow Bay Resort.

    The Greenbrier Sporting Club recently sponsored Cleveland Magazine’s Best Docs reception at The InterContinental hotel in Cleveland, OH. The hotel, located in the heart of The Cleveland Clinic’s campus, played host to over 300 attendees. The magazine honored doctors from a variety of disciplines for excellence in their field.


    The Sporting Club’s presence piqued a lot of interest, as Jacob Ott, Director of Outdoor Pursuits and Naturalism drew a crowd with his fly tying booth and sales executive Jim Staton (pictured above) informed the local physician community about real estate opportunities at The Greenbrier by using our state-of-the-art touchscreen.


    At the end of the night, The Sporting Club held a drawing for a two-night stay at the hotel, along with a weekend full of Sporting Club activities. Many of the attendees were very familiar with The Greenbrier and looked forward to planning visits here over the next year.
