Greenbrier owner Jim Justice announced this week that boxing legend Evander Holyfield will take on Sherman “Tank” Williams in a world-class fight at the resort. The fight, billed as “Redemption in America: The Journey Back Begins Now” will be held on January 22, 2011. The event will also include six additional professional boxing matches as well as meet-and-greet opportunities and open public workouts with all fighters.
Holyfield’s attitude toward his own redemption as a world-class boxer is clear: “My goal is to be the undisputed world champion one more time before I let it go–and until I do that, I will continue to fight.”
“This will be a first-class, black-tie event, and we want to show the world that smokey, crowded and intimidating all have a place in some casinos, but not here,” said Owner Jim Justice. “We wanted to offer something new and different to our guests, something that would inject some excitement back into America’s Resort. Holyfield is ‘The Real Deal.’ He’s not just a multiple world boxing champion, he’s also one of the most popular and beloved fighters of all time.” Holyfield is the only boxer to win the world heavyweight title four times. Some of his most notable wins were against George Foreman, Larry Holmes, Riddick Bowe, Michael Moorer, Lennox Lewis and he has two wins over Mike Tyson. In the 1984 Summer Olympics, Holyfield earned a bronze medal. He has been world champion in both the cruiserweight and heavyweight divisions and in 2007, ESPN ranked him as the 40th greatest fighter of all time.

Hi Kathy,
What a superb Christmas gift for your husband! Black Tie, as you know, means a formal affair, usually calling for tuxedos for the men and formal gowns or cocktail dresses for the women. Take a look at our post recapping the Casino Grand Opening Event, which was also black tie. There are several photos in which to take your que from. Click Here
Merry Christmas!
